About Me
Hello! I’m Woddy
My name is Matthew Woodring, but my friends and colleagues all call me Woody. I identify as being a person in recovery from addiction, mental health and trauma. For as long as I can remember, feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, fear, shame, self loathing, and just about any other negative or uncomfortable feeling that has existed have consumed me. For most of my life before I found recovery, I never felt comfortable in my own skin until I discovered the sweet relief of substances that could almost instantly change the way I felt. It didn’t take long for me to recognize that I used drugs and drank differently than others, always the first one to start and the last one to finish, always needing more, never having enough. In 2016, after a great many burned bridges, lost jobs, homelessness, arrests, and several attempts at sobriety, I found my way to a true recovery and began to heal.
I began my career working as a certified recovery peer advocate in a walk in program for people who wanted to go to treatment and needed help getting there. I have also worked in care management, outpatient counseling and as the program coordinator for a person-centered harm reduction Medication Assisted Treatment Program. Paired with my personal experience which includes incarceration, hospitalizations, arrests, evictions, homelessness and eventually took me through detox, inpatient, residential and outpatient programs, into community support groups and community agencies and organizations, I now have an extremely unique knowledge base and skillset which became the basis of my work in the helping field. I now bring that knowledge and experience into my recovery coaching and consulting business to offer support to individuals, groups, families, businesses or organizations. We offer individualized recovery coaching, group presentations for agencies and organizations, and consulting for programs.
